An Invitation to "Prayers Around the World" Project
I would like to invite you to join me in "Prayers around the world" Project. I would like to ask you to pray this New Year's Eve for those, especially children, who died in the devastating earthquake that hit northern Japan in March. We are asking to pray for those who perished for five minutes, or even less, starting at 11:45 PM. With the time differences, those prayers will go around the globe and form a huge ring. I hope that the children who left this world will notice the big ring of prayers around this planet and they will be comforted.
"Those Who Perished"
This year, a huge tsunami that occurs only once in a thousand years occurred, and it took so many lives. It claimed approximately 20,000 lives in the Tohoku region. In the hardest hit Miyagi Prefecture, 11,455 people (including those who are still missing) died. Among the public schools in Miyagi, 362 (including 12 staff members) young lives perished, with 182 in Ishinomaki City, 33 in Higashimatsushima, and 24 in Natori.
"My Prayer"
My heart aches to think of the children who suffered and lost their lives in the huge waves of tsunami and the teachers who perished trying to save those children. I know that the great grief of the parents, families, teachers, and friends who lost their loved ones cannot be comforted easily. The least I can do is to pray for the souls of the children and teachers who perished so that they will be able to rest in peace. I will remember deep in my heart that, although too short, these children lived happy lives with their families. And I will not forget that these precious lives were suddenly cut short by the onslaught of the huge tsunami. At the end of this year, I would like to pray for those young lives lost, and I hope that we will be able to appreciate the lives we are given and that we will be able to help each other with kindness and compassion in the coming year.
